I married my High School Sweetheart, the former Pam Dunaway in 1989. Currently, We live in McCordsville, IN. I graduated from Indiana University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Pam and I have been blessed with two beautiful children, Alec Richard Maier (born 1/6/94) and Megan Nicole Maier (born 7/26/98). Alec was diagnosed with Autism at age 3. As a result, Pam & I have become very active in our local support group and church. Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. The result of a neurological disorder that affects the functioning of the brain, over one half million people in the U.S. today have autism or some form of pervasive developmental disorder. Autism is four times more prevalent in boys than. Autism impacts the normal development of the brain in the areas of social interaction and communication skills. Children and adults with autism typically have difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and leisure or play activities. The disorder makes it hard for them to communicate with others and relate to the outside world. In some cases, aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior may be present. Persons with autism may exhibit repeated body movements (hand flapping, rocking), unusual responses to people or attachments to objects and resistance to changes in routines. I serve as a Board Member for the Autism Society of Indiana as well as being the editor of its quarterly newsletter. Pam and I serve as Board Members for the Central Indiana Chapter - Autism Society of America. In June 2000, I was elected as Vice-President. We are members at Servants of Christ Lutheran Church. God has blessed us in many ways. I work as Marketing Brand Manager for Kenra, LLC. Kenra manufactures professional and retail haircare & hair removal products (www.kenra.com & www.no-tweeze.com). I also freelance as a web site designer. My hobbies include baseball, music, home brewing beer, cooking, building plastic models, military history, Jazz, Christian Heavy Metal Music, comic book collecting, computers and cigars.
